A smart TV, also known as a connected TV (CTV), is a traditional television set with integrated interactive Web features and Internet, which allows users to browse the internet, stream music and videos, and view photos. A smart TV can play music on demand, stream video, and do a lot more. This may include browsing social media, accessing apps, and/or getting sports updates. Smart TV is an internet-connected television set that offers a range of online features, such as access to streaming services and the ability to connect to other wireless devices.

On the basis of Display Technology, Smart TVs can be categorized into LED, LCD, & OLED Smart TVs. In either case the screen of the Smart TV is LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). While, all high-end TVs today are smart LED TVs, and this capability is increasingly mainstream. The picture quality of an LED display is far better than LCD display. Due to modular light-emitting diodes, an LED screen produces better control over the contrast, rendering a clear picture, as well as an LED TV stands out as a winner on the parameter of brightness.

In short, smart TVs are a technological convergence of computers, televisions, & digital media players. A smart TV uses home network to provide streaming video and services and use wired built-in Wi-Fi and/or Ethernet to stay connected. The main benefit of a smart TV is access to many channels that offer music, movies, and TV programs without subscribing to a satellite or cable service or connecting to a TV antenna. Some smart TVs provide gaming, web browsing, and access to compatible media content stored on the computer.

Moreover, a smart TV supports Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, flash memory cards, USB, HDMI, and other audio-video connections. Therefore, the popularity of smart TVs is increasing in both developed and developing countries. In 2020, Samsung remained the most popular smart TV brand among U.S. households, with a steady share of 32%.
