Point of Sale (PoS) receipt printer is a type of receipt printer used to print receipts for customers on the spot. There are three common types of POS printers, such as thermal printers, ink-jet printers, and impact printers. Thermal printer is a printer that makes use of heat to produce the image on paper. Direct thermal printers are most commonly used to print items such as receipts and shipping labels. They use a thermal print head to transfer a solid ink from a ribbon onto a label supply to produce a permanent print.

An inkjet printer is a computer peripheral that produces hard copy by spraying ink onto paper. A typical printer can produce copy with a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi). It is a type of printing that recreates digital image by propelling droplets of ink onto paper and plastic substrates. Whereas, an impact printer is a type of printer that works by direct contact of an ink ribbon with paper. A metal or plastic head strikes the ink ribbon, whereby the ribbon is pressed against the paper and the desired character impression is printed on the sheet.

There are several types of these portable Point of Sale (PoS) receipt printers available in the market. A receipt printer is a crucial in PoS system where they are used in retail environments to print customer receipts and credit card slips. PoS printers are typically used to provide the transcript of the transactions such as sales receipts. PoS printers generate quality receipts and help minimize the printing time compared to conventional receipt printers.
