The Colorful History Of Lipstick
Lipstick is a cosmetic product made up of pigments, oils, waxes, and emollients that is applied to the lips to provide colour, moisture, and protection. Lipstick is the least expensive and most popular cosmetic in the world, with 21% of women wearing it on a daily basis and 78% wearing it on special occasions.
The global lipstick market is being driven by rising health consciousness among women all over the world, which is expected to increase demand for organic cosmetics. Companies all over the world are focusing on developing organic lipsticks in response to rising demand for organic cosmetics. For example, in October 2017, Nykaa released Organistick Lipstic, an organic lipstick containing natural ingredients such as shea butter, argan oil, and jojoba oil.
The ingredients in lipstick include wax, oils, antioxidants, and emollients. Lipstick is made of wax, which gives it its structure. Some waxes used to make lipsticks include beeswax, ozokerite, and candelilla wax. A key ingredient in lipstick, carnauba wax has a high melting point and is key to its strength. Lipsticks are made from different oils and fats, such as olive oil, mineral oil, cocoa butter, lanolin, and petrolatum.
Pigments and lake dyes provided the lipsticks with their different colors, including, but not limited to, bromo acid, D&C Red No. 21, Calcium Lake such as D&C Red 7 and D&C Red 34, and D&C Orange No. 17. Titanium dioxide is mixed with a red pigment to make pink lipstick. Organic and inorganic pigments are used.Matte lipsticks have more filling agents, such as silica, but fewer emollients. Waxes are more abundant in creme lipsticks than oils. Sheer and long lasting lipsticks have more oil in them, and long lasting lipsticks also have silicone oil in them, which seals the colours to the wearer's lips. Glossy lipstick contains more oil to give the lips a shiny finish.
